The ban on Discord in the Philippines has been lifted less than 24 hours after the platform began becoming inaccessible on several local internet providers.
According to the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), the restriction imposed on Discord has now been lifted. GMA News also reported the development on Thursday, September 24, confirming the reversal of the ban.
The restriction came after the CICC directed Discord and Reddit to establish a local presence or designate representatives in the Philippines to provide authorities with a clearer channel for coordination. The agency had also sought stronger commitments involving online safety, faster response mechanisms, and protections for minors. Discord initially did not receive the extension granted to Reddit, eventually resulting in access to the platform being restricted on several Philippine networks.
With the ban now lifted, Discord may not immediately become accessible to everyone. ISPs still need to reverse their respective network restrictions, while DNS caches and other network changes may take some time to update before access is fully restored for affected users.
For Filipino gamers and communities that rely heavily on Discord for communication, matchmaking, game updates, and community servers, the lifting means the platform should gradually return to normal access across the country.
