Donned with Darwin’s signature on the backside, the piece of paper set a file for the costliest Darwin merchandise ever offered, the BBC reported. The doc was estimated to promote for $600,000 to $800,000, and bidding surpassed expectations by closing at a worth nearer to $900,000.
Based on Sotheby’s, the manuscript is Darwin’s “definitive assertion on pure choice and his legacy” and was written for a publication known as The Autographic Mirror in October 1865.
