Vanuatu’s President Nikenike Vurobaravu has been requested to dissolve parliament amid a political disaster within the Pacific Island nation, nationwide broadcaster VBTC and the Vanuatu Each day Publish newspaper report.
Vanuatu’s Council of Ministers selected Friday to request the dissolution of parliament by the nation’s president, after a movement of no confidence in Prime Minister Charlot Salwai was lodged in parliament on Tuesday by a majority of lawmakers, VBTC reported in information bulletins.
The Vanuatu Each day Publish cited the prime minister’s workplace.
The workplace couldn’t be reached for remark.
Salwai is Vanuatu’s third prime minister since August, when Ishmael Kalsakau was unseated by a vote in parliament after eight months within the position.
If the president dissolves parliament, a nationwide election will probably be held.
