Opposition Chief Peter Dutton says the federal government resuming talks with China is ok as long as Beijing signifies there can be no repeat in its behaviour that places Australian Defence Drive personnel in danger.
Mr Dutton mentioned it was not unreasonable to ask China to take concrete actions to reveal it’s not heading down the trail “the remainder of the world believes them to be heading down”.
In February, a Chinese language Navy vessel aimed a military-grade laser at a RAAF P-8A Poseidon plane, which had been monitoring the ship from above over the Arafura Sea.
“Their very own rhetoric in relation to Taiwan, their very own actions in relation to the assaults on our army personnel – as I say the P-8 was put in a really precarious place – had that aircraft gone down we’d be having a really totally different dialogue.”
