Firstly I used to be really saddened by the demise immediately of Gisele Khoury. Like each different Lebanese, I knew her as a fearless, sensible, investigative journalist asking the correct questions for Lebanese politicians when she was nonetheless on the Lebanese airwaves. That she was straightforward on the attention was undoubtedly a bonus.
Apparently she was affected by an “incurable illness” to which she succumbed on the age of 62. You may examine her many achievements right here. My downside is that, for all her great profession, she is being launched as “the widow of Samir Kassir”. I can perceive that she established a basis in his title, however sadly she bought so entangled together with his reminiscence and title, that in some unspecified time in the future she simply turned an adjunct to him regardless of having had an unbelievable run on her personal. It does make me unhappy that at this level she contributed to the thought she was “simply” “the widow of” as if that is her foremost title and mission in life, when, as I mentioned she was way more than that.
It’s a pity somebody who was as dynamic, current, and engaged as Gisele Khoury could be – in most of her obituaries – be referred to by her late husband (irrespective of his mental prouesse). That unhappy that is that she majorly contributed to this designation.
