Has anybody outdoors the Balkans seen the film Ko to tamo peva (Who's Singing Over There)? It's a masterpiece of darkish comedy and satire, set on the eve of World Warfare II in Yugoslavia, that follows a bunch of misfit characters on a chaotic bus journey to Belgrade. The movie brilliantly captures the absurdity and unpredictability of life within the Balkans, with humor that mixes the tragic and the ridiculous. I'm from Serbia, so I can relate to those characters and conditions, and whereas a number of the cultural nuances won’t come throughout as strongly in translation, there’s an English-subtitled model of the film on YouTube. I extremely encourage you to test it out! submitted by /u/_wheelchair69 |
