Liberal candidate Jordan Lane has been confirmed as the brand new MP for Ryde after a vote recount within the suburban Sydney seat.
The NSW election recount was ordered after weeks of counting left Mr Lane simply 50 votes forward of rival candidate Lyndal Howison, whose Labor occasion formally requested the brand new tally on Tuesday.
NSW Electoral Commissioner John Schmidt mentioned on Thursday the decision to recount was largely as a result of very small quantity of votes separating the 2 candidates, after preferences have been distributed.
Different components within the choice to carry a recount included the redrawing of the seat’s electoral boundaries in 2021.
Labor holds 45 seats within the decrease home and requires two crossbench MPs to move laws.
Mr Lane replaces outgoing Liberal minister Victor Dominello, who beforehand held Ryde by virtually 9 per cent.
