Gaza edit: As Crikey reported earlier this week, The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald, when publishing Kerry O’Brien’s speech on press freedom on the seventieth Walkleys Awards, edited out his tribute to slain Palestinian journalists.
Discussing the speech yesterday on ABC Sydney Drive with host Chris Tub had been Australia Institute chief political analyst Amy Remeikis and SMH chief investigative reporter Kate McClymont. When requested about whether or not they agreed with O’Brien that there might be an erosion of belief within the press in Australia, Remeikis mentioned the press typically didn’t assist itself, referring to the 9 papers’ excision of O’Brien’s Gaza feedback.
