Two pilots fell asleep on a flight over Indonesia.
The worrying incident occurred on a Batik Air inner flight on January 25 as each co-pilots – a 28-year-old man and a 32-year-old man – dozed off for about 28 minutes.
A preliminary report from Indonesia’s Transportation Security Committee (KNKT) revealed that the pair discovered that the aircraft was “not on the proper flight path” after they wakened.
In line with the report, each pilots have been sleeping for round 241 miles however have been capable of land the plane – which was carrying 153 passengers – safely in Jakarta.
Indonesia’s civil aviation director Maria Kristi Endah Murni has “strongly reprimanded” Batik Air over the incident.
She stated: “We are going to perform an investigation and evaluate of the evening flight operation in Indonesia associated with Fatigue Threat Administration for Batik Air and all flight operators.”
