Two Queensland boaties have been rescued after drifting out to sea in a tinnie off the coast of Bundaberg.
It is believed the boaties’ tinnie had been impacted by heavy rains and and storms within the space and the boat’s electronics had failed.
The 2 occupants observed they had been being swept by the present, activating an emergency beacon round 9am.
A rescue chopper was known as by the Australian Maritime Security Authority (AMSA) to seek for the stranded occupants.
“The helicopter crew situated the boat round 10 miles off the coast and lowered a radio to the occupants so they may talk with authorities,” a spokesperson from RACQ Lifeflight mentioned.
Rescue crews learnt the boaties had been protected, calling on Bundaberg’s Volunteer Marine Rescue to tow them to security.
They had been unhurt through the incident.
The rescue was a joint operation by VMR, Queensland Police, the FV Ventura fishing vessel and the Australian Maritime Security Authority.
