The 2023 CMT Music Awards closed out on Sunday (April 2) with a star-studded tribute jam for late Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington.
Rossington, the final unique member of the Southern rock group, died on the age of 71 final month.
Available for the tribute had been Weapons N’ Roses’ Slash, ZZ High’s Billy Gibbons and former Dangerous Firm and Queen singer Paul Rodgers. Additionally current had been Chuck Leavell (Allman Brothers, The Rolling Stones), Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers, Gov’t Mule), LeAnn Rimes, Cody Johnson and Wynonna Judd.

Slash, Gibbons and co. performed “Easy Man” and “Candy Residence Alabama” as a salute to Rossington and Lynyrd Skynyrd in the course of the CMT Music Awards ceremony at Austin, Texas’ Moody Middle on Sunday.
On March 5, Lynyrd Skynyrd revealed Rossington’s dying in assertion on social media. “It’s with our deepest sympathy and unhappiness that we now have to advise, that we misplaced our brother, pal, member of the family, songwriter and guitarist, Gary Rossington,” they stated.
The band added, “Gary is now together with his Skynyrd brothers and household in heaven and taking part in it fairly, like he at all times does. Please maintain Dale, Mary, Annie and your entire Rossington household in your prayers and respect the household’s privateness at this troublesome time.”
The CMT Music Awards tribute to Rossington was launched by guitar nice Peter Frampton, who hailed the late musician as a “Southern rock icon” and stated he is “joined his Skynyrd bandmates in rock & roll heaven, however we’ll all get pleasure from their music perpetually.” Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Johnny Van Zant (brother of the late Ronnie Van Zant) and guitarist Ricky Medlocke had been within the viewers, as Rolling Stone reported.
