A skipper has described the terrifying second his boat capsized after it was hit by a freak wave off Hillarys — and the way he desperately gave his small canine mouth-to-mouth after combating to free himself and his pet from underneath the vessel.
Tim Halden was on the boat browsing close to Little Island together with his son Leo Halden and mates Jake O’Shea and Luke Williams when catastrophe struck about 1pm on Sunday.
“We had been simply anchored out by Little Island and the boys had been having a surf,” Mr Halden instructed 7News.
“We’d been there for a very long time and no waves had come by. We had anchored and just a bit freak wave had popped up subsequent to us.
“It wasn’t even that huge. It was the unsuitable spot, unsuitable time actually.

Mr Halden mentioned it was then the group realised the canine, a Jack Russell pug named Roxy, had been on the vessel.
