Opposition Chief Anthony Albanese has defended Labor’s claims the Solomon Islands turned to China after turning into disillusioned with Australia’s inaction on local weather change.
“The actual fact is we’ve dropped the ball,” Mr Albanese informed 2GB’s Ray Hadley on Tuesday morning.
Mr Hadley quizzed Mr Albanese about how Australia’s “negligent perspective” in the direction of local weather change compelled the Solomon Islands into the arms of the “world’s greatest emitter”.
“When the Pacific, together with Australia, have gotten collectively, guess what they must say – they are saying constantly that local weather change is the primary concern,” Mr Albanese stated.
“What we have to do is present them some respect.
“Our Pacific household, for them, all of them do not forget that video footage of Peter Dutton and Scott Morrison warning in regards to the growth mic, standing beneath it making a joke about rising sea ranges within the Pacific.
“For them, it’s a main risk. It’s a large precedence. And it’s a reality.”
