Coventry City have now made an early approach to sign a Wolverhampton Wanderers target in the January transfer window.
Joining Coventry could be the more attractive proposition at present, following their promotion to the Premier League and Wolves’ relegation last season, but it has been somewhat of a baptism of fire for Frank Lampard’s side.
The Sky Blues lost their opening four games of the season, with the 1-0 defeat against Hull City likely to be particularly disappointing, but they managed to sign off in the right way before the international break, picking up a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest on the road.

However, Frank Lampard’s side remain the lowest scorers in the Premier League, having found the net on just one occasion, which may be an early concern for the manager, although we are still in the opening stages of the campaign.
The victory against Forest has also given Lampard confidence his side has what it takes to avoid the drop, saying after the game: “I can go through so many players today and how they worked. You make your own luck in terms of VAR. I think it was a foul, but when you work that hard, I think the boys deserve it. It’s huge mentally for the team. We are a team with a lot of players having their first stint in Premier League football.
“Not everyone is a Wayne Rooney or a superstar that can just own it. This can now hopefully give us confidence. The boys today have shown they can do it.”
However, the 2025-26 Championship winners have already started making plans ahead of the January transfer window, with an Arsenal forward now in their thinking.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Coventry and Wolves have made approaches to sign Arsenal forward Max Dowman, with the Gunners now considering sanctioning a loan move during the January transfer window.
At just 16-years-old, the youngster has struggled to force his way into Mikel Arteta’s plans during the early stages of the season, featuring just once in the Premier League, although he did manage to bag two goals in a 4-2 EFL Cup triumph against Ipswich Town.
Having scored a brace against a Premier League side in the Tractor Boys, the teenager could have what it takes to flourish at a side fighting relegation, or fighting for promotion from the Championship, which will be Wolves’ aspiration this season.
However, it remains to be seen whether Mikel Arteta will be prepared to let Dowman leave, given that he described the wonderkid as “amazing” earlier this year, and the Spaniard may be in need of squad depth, as he looks to compete on all fronts once again this season.
