Crypto VC Funding Jumps 31% to $5.7 Billion in Q2 2026

Key Takeaways

  • Crypto VC funding hit $5.68B in Q2 2026, up 31% as later-stage deals drove the rebound.
  • Galaxy Research found 78% of capital went to mature firms, signaling more selective funding.
  • Slow fund formation may push investors toward ETFs and other liquid crypto vehicles.

Crypto VC Firms Deploy Funds Across 384 Q2 Deals

Crypto venture capital is showing signs of life again, but the money is flowing very differently than it did during earlier bull markets.

Venture firms invested $5.68 billion into crypto and blockchain companies in the second quarter, up 31% from Q1, according to Galaxy Research. Deal count rose a more modest 10% to 384, showing that larger financings, rather than a broad surge in startup activity, drove the rebound.

For the first half of 2026, total crypto VC investment reached $10.02 billion across 744 deals. If that pace holds, the year would annualize to roughly $20.04 billion, just shy of 2025’s $20.3 billion but well above much of the 2023-2024 downturn.

Late-Stage Crypto Companies Are Winning the Capital Race

The clearest signal from Q2 is concentration.

Later-stage companies captured about 78% of all capital invested, while younger startups took the remaining 22%. By deal count, however, early-stage activity remained meaningful, with pre-seed rounds accounting for about 21% of completed transactions.

The median crypto deal size also reached a record $4.9 million, even as reported company valuations fell sharply from their late-2025 highs.

Trading, exchange, investing and lending companies dominated the quarter, attracting about $3.52 billion, or roughly three-fifths of all venture capital deployed. DeFi followed with about $478 million, while privacy, tokenization, AI, infrastructure and payments also drew funding.

The US Is Pulling Further Ahead

American startups took an outsized share of the money.

U.S.-headquartered companies captured 73.5% of represented capital and 39.1% of all deals. The U.K. ranked second by capital at 4%, followed by France at 3.2%. By deal count, the U.K. and Singapore followed the U.S.

That matters because capital is increasingly clustering around markets with deeper financial infrastructure, clearer regulation and larger pools of institutional investors.

Fundraising Remains the Weak Link

The rebound in startup investment masks a tougher story for venture managers.

Only five new crypto-focused funds raised capital in Q2, the fewest in a quarter since 2019. Those funds attracted about $3.9 billion in total.

The divergence suggests institutional investors still want crypto exposure, but may increasingly prefer liquid vehicles such as crypto spot ETFs and digital-asset treasury companies over long-duration venture funds.

For the market, that is the key takeaway: crypto VC is recovering, but capital is becoming more selective, more institutional and more concentrated in mature businesses.
