How to Unlock Dragon Shelter Animal Ranching
You can unlock Dragon Shelter animal ranching by getting Animal Keeper Konrad to come to town. You can unlock this NPC after completing the quest “Wonders at the Doorstep” and restarting the Blacksmith’s forge.
How Raising Animals Works
Raising animals is pretty straightforward in Dragon Shelter. First, you must commission Animal Keeper Konrad to craft the appropriate animal pen for you; each animal requires a different kind of pen. Each pen can hold a maximum of 2 animals. You’ll need to wait 1 day for it to be crafted.
After you’ve ordered the pen, you’ll also need to buy the animals from Animal Keeper Konrad. Generally speaking, you’ll want to buy 2 animals for each pen.
When the pen is ready, clear some land on your farm and place the pen down. Then, select the animal on your hotbar, and you can place it in your pen. Your animals are hungry right from the start, so feed them.
Feed your animals every day, and they will begin to produce new crafting materials after a day or two. Some animals (such as the Caterpillar) have rare drops that can spawn once every few days; these may require additional items to collect them, such as an Alchemy Flask.
If animals aren’t fed, they won’t die. However, they won’t produce any goods, either. Don’t waste food on animals if you don’t intend to collect their products!

Caterpillar

- Produces: Silk
- Rarely Produces: Caterpillar Light (requires Alchemy Flask to collect)
Water Jellyfish
- Pen: Moon Aquarium
- Food: Water Flower
- Produces: Slime
Fire Salamander
- Pen: Lava Terrarium
- Food: Flame Rose
- Produces: Smoldering Coal
