The reports that Microsoft could be moving Halo under Activision Blizzard King (ABK) actually make a lot of sense when you look at what Microsoft owns.
ABK already has the Call of Duty development machine ..Treyarch, Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer, Raven and Beenox. Instead of having Halo Studios carry the entire franchise, Microsoft could potentially use a similar multi-studio model for Halo.
Halo Studios could remain the creative lead while other studios contribute to multiplayer, campaigns, technology, live-service content, etc.
I’m not saying Halo is becoming Call of Duty, or that Treyarch is suddenly making the next Halo. That’s speculation. But Microsoft now owns both franchises and their development ecosystems.
If the ABK move is real, maybe the goal isn’t to replace Halo Studios maybe it’s to give Halo the same kind of development infrastructure that makes Call of Duty possible.
Would you be okay with other ABK studios working on Halo as long as Halo Studios remained in charge of the franchise?
