Norwegian developer and publisher Funcom has finally released its massive open-world survival game on the PlayStation Store today. The game was previously released on PC and received a positive response.
Dune: Awakening is released for PlayStation 5 on the PlayStation Store. The game is also enhanced for PS5 Pro. Funcom currently lists the game for $49.99 for its standard edition. Accompanying the console launch, the developer has unveiled a Filmic Archive DLC which includes the cosmetics inspired by both live-action sci-fi films of the franchise.
The story takes place in an alternative timeline where Paul Atreides was never born, and the Fremen have vanished. Instead, Lady Jessica gives birth to a daughter, Ariste, as commanded by the Bene Gesserit.
Players step into the shoes of an undercover agent working for the Bene Gesserit. Sent to Arrakis to investigate the Fremen’s disappearance, the agent must survive the harsh desert while navigating the ongoing conflict between House Atreides and House Harkonnen. Players can ultimately choose which faction to support as they progress through the story.
How Dune: Awakening’s endgame lets players shape Arrakis
Beyond the main story, Dune: Awakening offers players long-term goals through base building and resource control. Players can construct everything from small desert outposts to massive strongholds, built piece by piece in Atreides, Harkonnen, or other architectural styles. Players clash over valuable spice harvesting operations across the Deep Desert, while winning over grow their influence on the territory.
Faction warfare is another important element of the endgame. Players compete for territory and resources across the desert, where danger and opportunity both increase. Vehicle crafting also plays a role, letting players build ground cars and ornithopters to survive sandstorms and roaming sandworms.
