Ryan Reynolds and Salma Hayek’s hilarious sequels are leaving Netflix. Fans have just a few days left to watch the hit action-comedy flick as it’s set to disappear from the streaming giant soon.
The Hitman’s Bodyguard and its sequel are leaving Netflix
According to What’s On Netflix, The Hitman’s Bodyguard and its sequel, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, will leave the platform on October 1, 2026. The first movie arrived back in August 2017. The sequel was released four years later in June 2021.
Both movies were directed by Patrick Hughes. Tom O’Connor wrote the first movie’s screenplay. O’Connor co-wrote the sequel with Brandon Murphy and Phillip Murphy. The Hitman’s Bodyguard follows Michael Bryce, a former bodyguard.
His life falls apart after a client gets killed. He is then assigned to protect hitman Darius Kincaid. Kincaid must testify against a dangerous dictator. However, getting him there becomes extremely complicated. Their personalities also create plenty of chaotic moments.
The sequel brings Bryce back with Kincaid again. This time, Sonia Kincaid joins their dangerous adventure. The trio gets involved with criminals and international threats. Both movies mix action with plenty of comedy. The two characters’ chaotic relationship remains central throughout both movies.
The main cast returns across both films, with Ryan Reynolds playing Michael Bryce. Samuel L. Jackson plays Darius Kincaid, while Salma Hayek plays Sonia Kincaid. The first film also features Gary Oldman and Elodie Yung. The sequel adds new cast members, including Frank Grillo and Morgan Freeman.
The first movie performed strongly at the box office. It earned around $183 million worldwide during its run. However, the sequel significantly underperformed compared to its predecessor. The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard earned roughly 70 million worldwide.
The movies also received mixed reactions from critics. However, fans responded somewhat differently to both films. The Hitman’s Bodyguard holds 44% with critics currently while it has a 66% fans score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The sequel has a 25% critics score currently. Interestingly, the sequel has a 79% fans score. That makes it the higher-rated movie among audiences. With both films leaving Netflix very soon, fans have only a few days left to watch chaotic action comedy.
