For understandable reasons, the Tokyo Game Show of 2026, which was previously intended to last a full five days as part of it’s 30th anniversary, called off day five because of the incoming Typhoon Dujuan, or No. 25. For those unfamiliar, typhoons are essentially hurricanes and run along similar seasonal timelines, with September being the peak of the season.
It’s not wholly uncommon for this time of year, three of which generally make landfall and 12 of which “merely” approach Japan. Japan as a whole, and Okinawa, which where most typhoons in the area tend to go, build accordingly as best as they can. As do most areas that regularly have to deal with the big windy water funnels on a yearly basis. They can still be quite dangerous even with proper and effective building codes, obviously, so in situations such as these an abundance of caution is called for.
Thankfully, Dujuan is not currently expected to make direct landfall in the area, but there is still a heavy risk of extremely heavy rain in particular for the Kanto region. The only non ending ceremony event set for the 21 was the Red Bull Revenge, a Street Fighter 6 invite-only show match series. The event, currently expected to still be being streamed elsewhere, will be featuring Big Bird vs Bonchan, Tokido vs MenaRD, Sahara vs Blaz, and LaShar vs Kawano.
It should be noted that these are only the events on the official website, and major gaming companies have been having streams since the start of this year’s event on September 17, with Koei Tecmo currently having a showcase as I type. More information from anyone still running an event or if or when such matters may need to be rescheduled will be announced in the appropriate channels.
All primary concerns are with the safety and health of the presenters, staff and attendees, and wish everyone involved safety and good health.

My memory’s spotty, to say the least, but gaming’s been a major part of my personal life from my younger years, where it was directly responsible for my fingers becoming functional. I’ve owned every notable Sony console, but started with the Sega Genesis, and I’m still slightly annoyed by the Dreamcast’s lifecycle going the way that it did.
