Parking payments at this year’s Perth Royal Show will directly support four local community groups — if you park in the right spot.
A temporary parking station at Lake Claremont will be operated by the Lions Club Claremont, Freshwater Bay Primary School P&C Association, Friends of Lake Claremont and the Claremont Lawn Tennis Club.
Each group will run the station for two days during the show.
Parking will cost $20 per vehicle, with all proceeds going directly to the groups to support their financial sustainability.
“The Royal Show brings over 300,000 visitors to Claremont, and this is a practical way of making sure some of that activity directly benefits our community,” Town of Claremont mayor Peter Telford said.
“Every dollar raised from the Lake Claremont parking will go back to local clubs and community groups, supporting the people and organisations that make Claremont such a strong community.”
All four groups are non-profit organisations predominantly run by volunteers.
The Lions Club raises money for medical research, local youth programs and the Lions Alzheimer’s Foundation.
The Freshwater Bay P&C Association raises money to support the school, including facility upgrades and social events, while Friends of Lake Claremont helps conserve the local wetlands.
The Claremont Lawn Tennis Club is preparing to host several community social events, junior sessions and pennant competitions this summer.
Temporary parking will also be available at Rowe Park for $20 per vehicle, operated by the town’s community safety officers.
More parking is available around the showground, including some resident verge parking. Pre-booked parking is available at Ashton Triangle and Swanbourne Primary School.
But the Royal Agricultural Society of WA recommends public transport as the easiest way to get to the show.
Showgrounds train station is on the Fremantle line and takes visitors directly to the gates, while Claremont station is also nearby for regular train and bus services.
