To say Insomniac Games’ recent superhero release, Marvel’s Wolverine, is controversial is like saying the sky is blue. If you’ve been at all paying attention to the game’s lead up to actually releasing, you’d know there’s some controversies surrounding it. Chief among them being a blue trail that leads players to select collectibles and used to point the player in the right direction during certain story moments.
Unfortunately, the internet does what the internet does and bemoans the feature, which can’t be turned off, as yet another instance of handholding in modern gaming, something that is often attributed to the use of “yellow paint,” like is used in the Final Fantasy R line. Back to the topic at hand, though, Insomniac’s went ahead and issued an update that lets players control the opacity of the trail.
Now, I will say, right now, the feature still can’t be fully turned off, but it can be minimized. The dev does note they are looking at ways to totally turn the feature off in the future, but gives no concrete timeline as to when fans will actually be able to turn off what has been dubbed the “blue fart trail.”
