Ubisoft has unveiled the first anniversary update for The Rogue Prince of Persia, bringing a substantial collection of new modes, challenges, combat mechanics, weapons and companions to the roguelite. The update is available today across all platforms.
Originally released in August 2025, The Rogue Prince of Persia has built up a strong following within the roguelite community, alongside a 90% positive rating from Steam players. The anniversary update marks a major expansion of the experience following a year of development from Evil Empire.
New Combat Zones Put Skills to the Test
One of the biggest additions is the introduction of Combat Zones, new arenas where players must survive waves of increasingly tougher enemies while progressing through the levels.
The update also introduces a new mechanic that allows the Prince to freeze and slow down enemies, adding another layer to the game’s fast-paced combat and giving players additional options when dealing with tougher encounters.
Speed Run and Parkour Modes Arrive
Movement has always been a major part of The Rogue Prince of Persia, and the anniversary update puts even more emphasis on the game’s parkour systems.
The new Speed Run mode provides a dedicated time-attack experience with built-in timers, challenging players to optimise their movement and routes while completing runs as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, Parkour mode is designed specifically around wall-running, routing and agility, giving players another way to focus on the game’s acrobatic movement mechanics.
Daily Runs and Nyamtur Trials Add New Challenges
The update also introduces Daily Awakening, a rotating daily-run system featuring different modifiers and specific requirements. The idea is to give players a constantly changing challenge while providing a consistent way to progress.
For players looking for something even tougher, the new Nyamtur Trials introduce high-risk, high-reward challenges scattered throughout the game’s biomes. Completing these advanced trials can reward players with legendary loot.
There are also new high-difficulty puzzles and combat rooms, designed to push players’ understanding of the game’s mechanics and movement systems further.
The Palace Has Been Completely Reworked
Evil Empire has also made changes to the overall pacing and difficulty of the game. The opening biomes have been shortened, while the overall challenge has been increased to create a faster progression and maintain the game’s focus on movement.
The final Palace biome has received a particularly substantial overhaul. It has been redesigned and restructured to provide a significantly tougher endgame challenge, better matching the powerful builds players can develop by the later stages of a run.
New Weapons, Tools and Companion Animals
The Prince also gets some new toys to work with. The anniversary update introduces the new Slingshot weapon, alongside a new trap-like tool that can be used to help dispatch enemies or avoid incoming threats.
Perhaps the more unusual addition is the arrival of companion animals. These companions can accompany the Prince through the game’s version of Ctesiphon, providing unique passive or active abilities that offer support during both combat and exploration.
A Major Anniversary Update
With new combat arenas, movement-focused modes, daily challenges, high-difficulty trials, redesigned levels, new equipment and companion animals, the first anniversary update represents a sizeable expansion for The Rogue Prince of Persia.
More importantly, the update continues to build around the game’s defining combination of fast movement, acrobatics and traversal across its layered 2D and 3D environments, giving players plenty of new reasons to return to Ctesiphon.
