The co-hosts of Today have made an emotional goodbye to Tim Davies, who is making one final weather report before leaving the show after seven years.
Co-host Sylvia Jeffreys was fighting back tears as she said goodbye to the beloved weather presenter, who announced he would be hanging up his hat in late August, after seven years with the Today team.
”It is a party fit for Tim Davies this morning, as you would expect, because we are going all out to celebrate everything he’s done for us over the last seven years,” co-host Tom Steinfort said.
Throughout the morning, Davies was surrounded by Cronulla Sharks cheerleaders and entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins as he shared some of his final updates.
“We’re going to give him a right old send off,” Wilkins said.
While sitting in the party bus, dubbed Dickie’s Taxi, A Current Affair host Ally Langdon made a surprise appearance.
There, she asked if Davies was serious about his departure.
“You’ve been an absolute joy in the morning … are you sure you want to do this?” she asked.
With a laugh, Davies said he had done it all, and was ready for a change.
“I have been everywhere. I have done everything, and I’ve done it with the best people, as you can see.
“I just don’t know how you top it. I don’t know how you get any better.”
He said it was “time … to do life a little bit more now”.
“That’s what I’m looking forward to, and having a bit of a bit of a change.
“But it’s been the best, and I’m leaving on such a high.”
When the time came to present his final report, Davies was met with the entire Today crew and special guests from the Australian Girls’ Choir and Qantas, who handed him a bundle of gifts.
“You are the most special, my friend. Oh, gosh. We love you the country over,” Jeffreys said.
Davies was emotional as he made his final goodbyes to the studio and viewers.
“I just want to say one of the hardest things in life is to be your true, authentic self,” he said.
“And I want to say thank you to our audience for accepting me and allowing me just to be me every half-hour.
His departure comes as Tom Steinfort and Sylvia Jeffreys were named the official new hosts for Today, following the departure of Sarah Abo and Karl Stefanovic.
Sarah Abo confirmed her exit from the Nine Network on Wednesday evening, shortly after going on maternity leave and giving birth to her first child Sonny.
After joining as co-host alongside Karl Stefanovic in 2023, Abo revealed she would not be returning to Today or the Nine Network in an emotional video on Thursday evening.
“Together with 60 Minutes, I’ve spent my time at Nine chasing stories, travelling and reporting from all over the world, interviewing some incredible and inspiring people from all walks of life,” she said in a statement.
“Becoming a mum has heralded a new chapter and sharing that with our audience has been truly special. As many of you know, this has been a significant journey for my family and will continue to be my greatest achievement.”
